He completed further training in psychology, alternative medicine and annual study trips to Hong Kong to his sifu (master) Ip Ching (the son of grandmaster Ip Man = teacher of Bruce Lee). In 1998 he founded the Wu-Te Academy. Our interview partner Sifu Mukatder Gül Ph.D. heads the Wu-Te Academy In the Wu-Te Academy you offer a variety of different courses in the areas of self-defense and martial arts.
Since when have you been dealing with these topics and what is it that particularly fascinates you? Which exams did you take in order to be able to work as a trainer?
The Asian fighting and movement arts are very versatile. To some extent it is good for general fitness, cardiovascular training, muscle building, to name just a few physical training. In addition, it is about mental training, psychology, body language, energy work, stress management, up to meditation and much more. Everyone can find what he or she needs or is looking for and often much more than that! I am a 2nd generation teacher in both areas of the martial arts that we teach at the Wu-Te Academy. Wing Chun Kung Fu Grandmaster Ip Man- 1st generation his son Ip Ching and in the 2nd generation I come in the Serrada Escrima area, Grandmaster Angel Cabales – 1st generation his master student JC Cabiero and in the 2nd generation I am lucky to be his student to be allowed to be!
That means a lot to me, because I am as close to the source as possible – so I can learn and pass on the 2 most effective martial arts in this world pure and pure! What different courses are available at Wu-Te? What requirements should one meet in order to take part in the courses? How does personal coaching work and what topics do you deal with?
Wing Chun Kung Fu – martial arts and self-defense for adults Serrada Escrima – self-defense with and against weapons of all kinds, also for adults Body Drilling – a kind of fitness boxing workout Little Dragons Children Kung Fu from 4 years Little Samurai sword training for children from 6 years As already described, the content of the individual lessons is very varied! Anyone who is willing to learn can do it – there are no special requirements, that is the special thing about what and how we teach! It is a very individual training, everyone works with what he or she has – their own body and mind! In personal training there are mostly people who have little time, cannot come to the courses in the evening, or simply want to learn faster and more intensively. Here I can focus more on individual needs and objectives and achieve quick results!
At Wu-te there is a Knife Fight Self-Defense course. How long do you have to train before you can use a knife? How high is the risk of injury? What other items are used in the Wu-Te courses?
Of course we don’t train with sharp knives! This means that the risk of getting injured is very low! In the last 21 years of Wu-te Akademie we have not had any notable injuries! We also do not train knife fighters as is often misinterpreted! It’s about learning how a weapon works, what the dangers are and then how you can protect yourself against it! This is very important especially in the current discussions about gun ban zones etc. The “bad guys” are not interested in the prohibition zone, if they want to rob, attack and violate someone, they have already decided to violate the laws of our society, not to accept them, so in this case we will, whether we want to or not faced with the gun! If we have dealt with it beforehand (at the Wu-Te Academy) then in the ideal case we can get out of the situation whole and unhurt or in the worst case survive! Otherwise we have to endure certain things! We call the “moment of truth” it may only happen once in a lifetime or not at all but what if it happens !?
In addition to many other courses, Wu-Te also offers a workshop that is only intended for women? Why do you advise women, especially nowadays, to take such a course?
I am not a fan of courses especially for women only, on the contrary, I condemn these types of offers because they are often unrealistic and give course participants a false sense of self-confidence! This is very dangerous! What we do is try to take the inhibitions off the women and make it clear to them that self-defense and security are not done with attending a course or workshop! It’s just the beginning of a journey! Real self-defense requires regular training under qualified guidance! The Asian fighting and movement arts are very versatile
From 4 to 80 years At the Wu-Te Academy, martial arts and movement arts are taught for young and old. Martial arts are about morality, self-confidence, righteousness, honesty, courage and courage. At the Wu-Te Academy, the beauty and versatility of the Asian martial art is made accessible to the masses.
